Local AI image processing

Remove backgrounds without uploading the photo to an application server.

A browser-ready BiRefNet model creates an alpha matte locally. First use downloads the model files; output can be transparent or placed on a solid colour.

Remove an image background

Choose a product photo or portraitProcessing stays in this browser; model files are downloaded on first use.

Background
First use downloads an approximately 94 MB fp16 model on WebGPU-capable browsers; WASM fallback can use more memory and be slower. The 512×512 inference model can lose very fine edge detail on large originals.

Model and limits

This implementation uses the MIT-licensed studioludens/birefnet-lite-512 browser ONNX export with Transformers.js. Its 512×512 inference resolution is practical for browsers but may soften very fine edges on large source images.

Device behavior

WebGPU is preferred when available; WASM is the fallback. Actual processing time is measured and shown after each run instead of claiming a universal speed. The model is loaded only on this tool page when processing starts.
