What a Wi-Fi QR code contains
A Wi-Fi QR code can include a network name (SSID), security setting, password and whether the network is hidden. It is a static QR code: the encoded connection information is in the pattern itself, not in a hosted redirect. A compatible camera or network scanner may recognize it and offer a connection prompt.
Generate and verify one in five steps
- Open the Toolmintly QR generator and select Wi-Fi as the content type.
- Type the network name exactly as it appears in your router settings. Network names are case-sensitive.
- Choose the security setting, such as WPA/WPA2/WPA3, and enter the current password. Select the hidden-network option only if applicable.
- Keep strong foreground/background contrast. Select Generate & verify; Toolmintly attempts to decode the generated image locally before enabling downloads.
- Download the PNG for ordinary use or SVG for a sharp printed sign. Test it on at least two supported phones before distributing it.
Will the QR code expire?
Toolmintly does not place a tracking redirect or expiry service between the scanner and the encoded data. However, the code becomes outdated if you change the SSID, password or security configuration. Generate a new code after those changes. Printed codes should be tested after any router updates.
Is sharing the password safe?
The QR image includes the Wi-Fi password when the network requires one, and a scanner can decode it. Treat the image like the password itself: use a restricted guest network, avoid publishing your private network credentials publicly, and replace the code when access should be revoked. The QR is for convenience, not encryption.
What if the camera does not connect?
Support varies across phone models, operating systems and scanner apps. Confirm the network name, password, security mode and hidden-network selection; then verify the device supports joining Wi-Fi networks from QR codes. A code can pass a local decode check yet still require manual connection on some phones.
Other QR formats
For a website or menu, choose the URL mode instead. For a digital business card, choose Contact, which generates vCard data. Toolmintly supports static QR exports to PNG and SVG and performs code generation within the browser.
